suicide watch
Constant protective observation
Suicide watch is close monitoring of a person considered at risk of self-harm, typically in hospitals, jails, or psychiatric facilities.
Staff check on the individual at frequent intervals—sometimes continuously—and remove items that could be used for self-injury: He was placed on suicide watch after the incident.
The term also appears informally for keeping a worried eye on someone going through crisis.
