inner cell mass
Future embryo cells
The inner cell mass is a cluster of cells inside a blastocyst—the early stage of an embryo a few days after fertilization.
These cells will develop into the embryo proper, while the outer layer becomes the placenta.
The inner cell mass is the source of embryonic stem cells used in research.
