infix

Insert within word

An infix is a word element inserted into the middle of another word, rather than attached at the beginning (prefix) or end (suffix).

English has few true infixes, but expletive insertion functions this way: abso-fucking-lutely, fan-bloody-tastic.

In linguistics and computing, to infix means to insert something within a sequence rather than before or after it.
