indivisibles

Units without parts

Indivisibles are things that cannot be divided or separated into parts.

In philosophy and physics, the term historically referred to atoms or the smallest possible units of matter—particles beyond which no further division is possible.

In mathematics, indivisibles were precursors to infinitesimals in calculus.

The word often appears in political contexts: We pledge allegiance to one nation, indivisible.
