inboards

Internal marine motors

Inboards are motors mounted inside a boat's hull rather than hanging off the stern.

The term distinguishes these engines from outboard motors, which attach externally.

As an adjective, inboard describes position closer to a vessel's centerline or a vehicle's body: the inboard engine, inboard brakes.

The opposite is outboard.
