hydrophile

Attracted to water

A hydrophile is a substance or molecule that has an affinity for water, readily dissolving in or mixing with it.

The term appears most often in chemistry and biology to describe molecules or parts of molecules that are attracted to water, as opposed to hydrophobic substances that repel it.

Many biological molecules are amphiphilic, having both hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions, which allows them to form structures like cell membranes.
