hydrophobe

Substance rejecting moisture

A hydrophobe is something that repels or fails to mix with water—the opposite of hydrophilic.

In chemistry, hydrophobic molecules like oils and fats resist water contact.

The term also describes a person with hydrophobia, an old name for rabies, whose victims develop an aversion to swallowing water due to throat spasms.
