hurley

Curved Gaelic stick

Hurley is the wooden stick used in the Irish sport of hurling—a broad, curved blade at one end for striking a small ball called a sliotar.

The sport itself is sometimes called hurley, though hurling is more common.

He swung the hurley and sent the ball sailing over the crossbar.
