hellmouth
Beast-jawed underworld entrance
A hellmouth is any entrance to hell or place of damnation, especially as depicted in medieval art and drama—a gaping monster's maw through which damned souls pass.
The word has been revived in fantasy fiction and gaming to describe portals through which demons or evil forces enter the world: The town was built on a hellmouth, which explained a lot.
