head fake
Misleading body movement
A head fake is a deceptive movement of the head meant to mislead an opponent about your intended direction.
Common in basketball and football, the move draws defenders one way while you go another: He threw a head fake left, then drove right to the basket.
Extended to any feint or misdirection: The announcement was just a head fake to distract from the real news.
