Compressed wood panel
Hardboard is a type of engineered wood panel made from compressed wood fibers, denser and smoother than particleboard.
One side is typically smooth while the other has a textured pattern from the manufacturing process.
Common in construction for backing, underlayment, and inexpensive paneling: The contractor used hardboard for the cabinet backs.
