globins

Oxygen-carrying proteins

Globins are a family of proteins that bind and transport oxygen in the blood and tissues.

Hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in red blood cells, and myoglobin, which stores oxygen in muscle tissue, are the most familiar examples.

The term appears mainly in biochemistry and medical contexts: The patient showed abnormal globin levels.
