giant reed
Towering wetland bamboo-like
Giant reed is a tall perennial grass native to the Mediterranean region, growing up to twenty feet high with bamboo-like stems and feathery plumes.
It spreads aggressively along waterways and is considered invasive in many regions.
The stems have been used for centuries to make reeds for woodwind instruments, thatching, and paper.
Also called Arundo donax.
