galls

Gets one's goat

Galls has two sources.

From one: a gall is a sore caused by rubbing, especially on a horse from ill-fitting tack.

To gall is to chafe or irritate, literally or figuratively: It galls me that he got the promotion.

From the other: galls are abnormal growths on plants caused by insects, fungi, or bacteria—the oak gall was historically used to make ink.
