future tense

Grammar's crystal ball

Future tense is a grammatical form indicating that an action or state has not yet occurred.

In English, it's typically formed with "will" or "shall" plus a verb: She will arrive tomorrow, We shall see.

The phrase "going to" also expresses future tense: It's going to rain.

Some languages mark future tense with verb endings rather than helper words.
