voice change
Maturing vocal shift
Voice change refers to the deepening of the voice that occurs during puberty, particularly in males.
The larynx grows and the vocal cords lengthen, causing pitch to drop—sometimes dramatically over months, sometimes gradually.
During this transition, the voice may crack or break unexpectedly: His voice change made choir practice awkward.
Females experience a subtler version of the same process.
