footstone
Grave's opposite end
A footstone is a marker placed at the foot of a grave, smaller than and complementary to the headstone at the opposite end.
It typically bears only initials or a brief inscription: The weathered footstone read simply "J.M. 1847".
The term also refers to a stone placed at the foot of something for support.
