footstones
Cemetery plot endpoints
Footstones are grave markers placed at the foot end of a burial plot, typically smaller and simpler than the headstone at the opposite end.
Together they mark the full length of the grave.
In older cemeteries, footstones often bear only initials matching the headstone's inscription: The footstone read simply "J.W." to match the elaborate headstone.
