firkin
Quarter of barrel
A firkin is a small wooden cask, traditionally holding about nine gallons of ale or a quarter barrel.
The term appears in brewing contexts and occasionally in historical or British usage: a firkin of butter, a firkin of beer.
The word now sounds quaint and appears mainly in pub names or period writing.
