fat-free

Lacking any grease

Fat-free describes food containing no fat, or negligible amounts per serving.

The term became ubiquitous in the 1990s when dietary fat was blamed for obesity and heart disease: fat-free yogurt, fat-free salad dressing.

Fat-free products often compensate with added sugar.

The term applies literally to anything without fat content.
