fangirls
Obsessive celebrity enthusiasts
Fangirls are female fans who express intense, often obsessive enthusiasm for a celebrity, fictional character, band, TV show, or other cultural phenomenon.
The term captures both devoted appreciation and the stereotype of emotional excess—screaming at concerts, collecting memorabilia, writing fan fiction, and defending their favorite against criticism.
The fangirls lined up overnight for concert tickets.
Though sometimes dismissive, fangirl has been reclaimed by many who embrace passionate fan culture.
It also works as a verb: She fangirls over every post he makes.
