nerds out
Gets intensely passionate
To nerd out is to enthusiastically immerse oneself in a specialized interest or technical subject, often at length and with more detail than casual listeners want: We nerded out about vintage synthesizers for two hours.
The phrase implies both passion and social obliviousness—the nerding person may not notice others' eyes glazing over.
Can be self-deprecating or affectionate.
