entr'acte

Between the acts

An entr'acte is an interval between acts of a play or opera, or the music or entertainment performed during that break.

The term comes from French, literally meaning "between acts." By extension, it can describe any interlude or pause between main events: The cocktail hour served as an entr'acte before dinner.
