hiatus

Gap in continuity

A hiatus is a break or interruption in something that would otherwise be continuous.

Television shows go on hiatus between seasons, and workers take a hiatus from their jobs.

The word often implies a temporary pause with an expectation of resumption: After a two-year hiatus, the band announced a reunion tour.

In anatomy, a hiatus is a gap or opening in a body part, particularly in bone or membrane.
