emulsions

Milk, mayonnaise, lotions

Emulsions are mixtures where one liquid is dispersed as tiny droplets throughout another liquid that normally wouldn't blend with it.

Oil and water don't mix, but with vigorous agitation or an emulsifying agent, one can be suspended in the other: Mayonnaise is an emulsion of oil in egg yolk.

Milk, paint, and many cosmetics are emulsions.

In photography, the emulsion is the light-sensitive coating on film.
