elevensies

Late morning refreshment

Elevensies is a mid-morning snack or light meal taken around eleven o'clock, similar to a coffee break.

The word is chiefly British and somewhat old-fashioned, associated with rural or working-class custom: Time for elevensies—put the kettle on.

It gained wider recognition through Tolkien's hobbits, who treat elevensies as one of several daily meals between breakfast and lunch.
