digestives

Tea-time biscuits

Digestives are a type of British biscuit, round and semi-sweet, made with whole wheat flour.

Originally marketed in the 19th century with claims about aiding digestion—claims now considered dubious—they remain enormously popular in the UK, often enjoyed with tea or coated in chocolate.

The term also functions as an adjective relating to digestion: digestive enzymes, digestive tract.

As a noun in this sense, a digestive is something that aids digestion, such as an after-dinner drink.
