e-passport
Chipped travel booklet
An e-passport is a passport containing an embedded electronic chip that stores the holder's biometric data—typically a digital photograph, and sometimes fingerprints or iris scans.
The chip allows automated identity verification at border crossings: The e-passport gates were down, so we had to queue for manual checks.
Also called a biometric passport.
