e-passports

Chip-embedded travel booklets

E-passports are passports embedded with an electronic chip storing the holder's biometric data—typically a digital photograph, fingerprints, or iris scan.

The chip allows automated border control systems to verify identity more quickly and securely than traditional passports.

Also called biometric passports or digital passports: Most countries now issue e-passports as standard.
