dynamic equilibrium

Stable through change

Dynamic equilibrium is a state of balance maintained through continuous change rather than stillness.

In chemistry, it describes a reversible reaction where forward and reverse processes occur at equal rates, so concentrations remain stable even though molecules keep reacting.

The concept extends to any system where opposing forces or flows balance out: The population reached a dynamic equilibrium as births matched deaths.

Unlike static equilibrium, everything keeps moving—the stability comes from matched movement, not from rest.
