dvr

Television recording device

A DVR (digital video recorder) is a device that records television programs to a hard drive for later viewing.

Unlike the VCRs it replaced, a DVR can pause and rewind live broadcasts, skip commercials, and store many hours of content.

The verb DVR means to record something: I'll DVR the game and watch it tonight.

TiVo was the brand that popularized DVRs in the late 1990s.
