terabytes

Hard drive capacities

A terabyte is a unit of digital information storage equal to approximately one trillion bytes, or more precisely 2^40 bytes (1,099,511,627,648 bytes).

As storage capacity has grown exponentially, terabytes have become the standard measure for consumer hard drives and cloud storage plans.

My laptop has a two-terabyte drive.

The prefix tera- comes from Greek for "monster," aptly describing these once-unimaginable quantities of data.
