drink problem
Struggle with alcohol
A drink problem is a pattern of excessive alcohol consumption that causes difficulties in one's life—the British and Australian equivalent of American "drinking problem." The phrasing treats alcoholism with slight understatement: His brother has a bit of a drink problem.
Someone with a drink problem may not be a full alcoholic but drinks enough to create trouble.
