dories
Flat-bottomed fishing craft
Dories are small, flat-bottomed fishing boats with high sides and sharp bows, traditionally used in Atlantic waters.
Their simple construction and ability to be stacked made them ideal for cod fishing from larger vessels: The schooner carried a dozen dories on deck.
Dory also names a type of golden-colored fish, as in John Dory.
