seiners
Encircling net vessels
Seiners are fishing boats equipped with seine nets—large nets that hang vertically in the water and encircle schools of fish.
The crew deploys the net in a wide circle, then draws the bottom closed like a purse to trap the catch.
Seiners target schooling species like tuna, sardines, and salmon.
The seiners headed out before dawn to work the fishing grounds.
