doggy paddle
Novice swimmer's technique
Doggy paddle is a basic swimming stroke where the arms paddle beneath the water while the legs kick, resembling how a dog swims.
It's often the first stroke children learn, requiring no formal technique: She doggy-paddled across the shallow end.
Also called dog paddle.
