diving-bells

Submerged air pockets

A diving bell is a rigid chamber, open at the bottom, lowered into water to allow divers to descend while breathing trapped air.

The bell's air pocket forms naturally as water pressure holds it in place.

Historically used for salvage and underwater construction, diving bells were precursors to modern diving equipment: Workers descended in a diving bell to inspect the bridge foundations.
