bone spur
Arthritic joint growth
A bone spur is a bony projection that develops along the edges of bones, typically where bones meet at joints or where ligaments and tendons attach.
Despite the name, bone spurs are usually smooth and form gradually as the body tries to repair itself.
They often cause no symptoms but can press on nerves or other structures, causing pain: The bone spur in her heel made walking difficult.
Bone spurs commonly occur in the spine, shoulders, hands, hips, knees, and feet.
