dipoles

Two-pole arrangements

A dipole is a pair of equal and opposite electric charges or magnetic poles separated by a distance.

In physics and chemistry, molecules with uneven charge distribution are called polar because they have dipole moments—the positive and negative ends create a tiny internal separation: Water is a dipole, which explains many of its unusual properties.

A dipole antenna has two elements extending in opposite directions from a central feed point.
