devil dog
Semper Fi soldier
Devil dog is a nickname for a United States Marine.
The term supposedly originated from German soldiers in World War I, who called Marines "Teufel Hunden" for their fierce fighting at Belleau Wood.
Whether the etymology is accurate or apocryphal, the name stuck and Marines have embraced it since: Once a devil dog, always a devil dog.
Separately, a Devil Dog is a cream-filled chocolate snack cake made by Drake's.
