Deoxidizing is removing oxygen from a substance, especially in metallurgy where oxygen must be eliminated from molten metal to prevent defects.
Steel production uses deoxidizing agents like aluminum or silicon to purify the melt: The foundry added manganese during the deoxidizing process.
