deoxygenated
Stripped of oxygen
Deoxygenated describes something that has had its oxygen removed or depleted.
The term appears most often in biology: deoxygenated blood returns to the heart after delivering oxygen to tissues, appearing darker than its oxygen-rich counterpart.
In chemistry, deoxygenated water or solutions have had dissolved oxygen purged, typically by bubbling nitrogen through them.
