deoxidant
Metal purifying agent
A deoxidant is a substance that removes oxygen from metals or alloys during processing, preventing unwanted oxidation.
In steelmaking, deoxidants like aluminum or silicon are added to molten metal to improve purity and strength: The foundry uses manganese as a deoxidant.
Also called a deoxidizer.
