curricle

Horse-drawn light carriage

A curricle is a light, two-wheeled carriage drawn by two horses harnessed side by side.

Popular among wealthy young men in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it was prized for speed and stylish appearance: He drove his curricle at a reckless pace through the village.

The word appears frequently in Regency-era novels.
