assembly rooms
Public meeting spaces
Assembly rooms are public halls built for social gatherings, concerts, dances, and other entertainment.
The term evokes Georgian and Regency England, when provincial towns built elegant venues where local society could assemble for balls and card parties: Jane Austen's characters frequently attended the assembly rooms at Bath.
Some historic assembly rooms survive as concert venues or event spaces.
