phaeton

Light horse-drawn vehicle

A phaeton is a light, open four-wheeled carriage drawn by one or two horses, popular in the 18th and 19th centuries for leisurely driving.

The name comes from Phaethon, the Greek mythological figure who lost control of the sun god's chariot.

In early automotive history, phaeton designated open touring cars without permanent tops: a 1932 Ford phaeton.
