brougham

Enclosed horse carriage

A brougham is a light, enclosed horse-drawn carriage with four wheels, typically seating two to four passengers, with the driver seated outside.

Named for Lord Brougham in the 19th century, the term later applied to early automobiles with similar enclosed passenger compartments and an open driver's seat: a 1910 electric brougham.
