culls
Sorted-out inferiors
Culls are items removed from a group as inferior or unwanted.
Farmers cull livestock, editors cull weak passages, and shoppers find culls in the discount bin.
The word works as both noun and verb: The farmer culled the sick animals from the herd.
A cull can also mean the act of culling itself: The annual deer cull keeps the population manageable.
