turnings

Changes in direction

Turnings are points where a road, path, or passage changes direction, or the act of making such a change.

In British usage especially, you might miss a turning if you drive past the junction you wanted.

The word also names the waste material—shavings or chips—produced when something is shaped on a lathe.

The metal turnings curled onto the workshop floor.

A turning point, by extension, is any moment when circumstances shift decisively in a new direction.
