culled

Picked and discarded

Culled is the past tense of cull, meaning to select and remove from a larger group.

The word cuts two ways: you can cull the best items culled from the archives or remove the weakest diseased animals were culled from the herd.

In wildlife management, culled often means killed to control population: Rangers culled the deer to prevent overgrazing.
